We can read what will be coming out in the next few months, ahead of the general reader.\u00a0 <\/span>Recently I read, \u201cWhen We Wake\u201d by Karen Healey.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s advertised as a Young Adult book\u2014for 12 year-olds and up, but I find that surprising.\u00a0 <\/span>It feels more appropriate for older teens.\u00a0 <\/span>Themes about global warming, sexuality, and governmental controls seem a bit advanced for the younger reader.<\/p>\n The narrator, Tegan is 16, and she has just woken up in a hospital, a hundred years after she was killed by a terrorist\u2019s bullet that was meant for someone else. She has to figure out how to survive in this strange world, where many of the rules have changed.\u00a0 <\/span>She also has to discover why she was cryonically frozen\u2014and why they have revived her and no one else.\u00a0 <\/span>Strong writing and a strong plot will keep you turning the pages.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" It\u2019s fun working in a bookstore and getting ARCs!\u00a0 (The pre-publication galley.)
