355C: Silly Goose Forgets to Invite Friends to Party (Solved!)

I’m delighted by this site and have a book that I’d enjoy seeing again. When I was in kindergarten in 1955, my favorite story was of a goose who decides to have a party for her friends. She cleans her house, and cooks and bakes up a storm. But no one shows up! Then she hears her friends chattering outside at the bus stop and learns that she forgot to invite them. They come in and enjoy her feast, so all ends well.

Obviously, this was a long time ago, so I don’t remember the name. Any one have a clue?

I think the book is Our Friend Mrs. Goose, by Miriam Clark Potter. The story “Mrs. Goose Has a Party” was also included in the reader Friends and Neighbors.

I loved this story too as a little girl. It was around 1948. It I had a lasting impression on me. Every time I entertained as an adult, it was always in the back of my mind that I might be forgetting something.

“Mrs Goose has a party” was one of my favorite short stories as a child.
I was born in 1954 and I still remember this story. I mention it all the time when I’m giving or going to a party.

There was another story where Mrs Goose was making apple butter and wanted to find out how to spell it. At the end, she had to repeat the phrase “ Two T’s!” to remember the spelling

The apple butter story isbMrs Goose Forgets, or Mrs Goose Forgets Herself. It seems to have been included in various readers, but I’m not sure which Mrs Goose story collection it came from, or if it was written as a standalone story.
