{"id":1828,"date":"2014-07-12T16:56:55","date_gmt":"2014-07-12T20:56:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w1.loganberrybooks.com\/stumpthebookseller\/?p=1828"},"modified":"2014-07-12T16:56:55","modified_gmt":"2014-07-12T20:56:55","slug":"172e-please-help-me-find-my-grandmothers-storypoetrysong-book","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w1.loganberrybooks.com\/stumpthebookseller\/172e-please-help-me-find-my-grandmothers-storypoetrysong-book\/","title":{"rendered":"172E:  Please Help me find my Grandmother&#8217;s story\/poetry\/song book"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b> <\/b><\/p>\n<p>:\u00a0 In the 1960\u2019s my grandmother read to her six grandchildren (born in the late \u201850\u2019s), from a beaten up old story book that had no cover.\u00a0 Thus, I suspect it was my father\u2019s and aunt\u2019s book when they were little.\u00a0 They were born in the late 1920\u2019s to 1930.\u00a0 The book was quite thick \u2013 nearly two inches, and large, about 9 x 12.\u00a0 I recall it was larger than letter size.\u00a0 The print was about 18 to 24 point, with many colored illustrations, like we see in old books from the early 20<sup>th<\/sup> century.\u00a0 The literature was organized by simple nursery rhymes in the front to longer and harder stories and poems at the end of the book.\u00a0 We enjoyed the songs in the book, but there was no music scores, just words.\u00a0 One poem\/song was, \u201cOver in the Meadow.\u201d\u00a0 I pasted the words to the specific version that was in the story book.\u00a0 There\u2019s a newer\/different version to this poem floating around. \u00a0In my grandmother\u2019s old story book, this poem covered many pages, because each stanza was illustrated.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the words to America the Beautiful (Oh Beautiful for Spacious Skies) were in the book, with beautiful illustrations.\u00a0 The song was spread out on several pages because of the illustrations.\u00a0 I think there were some Robert Louis Stephenson poems, too.\u00a0 I do not remember some of the longer stories.\u00a0 There was another patriotic song in the book, too, but I do not remember which one.\u00a0 Also, there might have been some hymns like Onward Christian Soldiers, but that might be an incorrect memory.<\/p>\n<p>We loved that book.\u00a0 We would sit on my grandmother\u2019s lap in the big rocking chair, an Abe Lincoln rocking chair, and she would read and sing to us for hours.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the words to Over in the Meadow that was in that old story and song book.\u00a0 I would love to buy this book, in any condition, if you can identify it.<\/p>\n<p>Over in the meadow<br \/>\nIn the sand in the sun,<br \/>\nlived an old mother turtle<br \/>\nand her little turtle one.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dig,&#8221; said the mother,<br \/>\n&#8220;I dig,&#8221; said the one,<br \/>\nand they dug all day<br \/>\nin the sand in the sun.<\/p>\n<p>Over in the meadow<br \/>\nwhere the stream runs blue,<br \/>\nlived an old mother fish<br \/>\nand her little fishies two.<br \/>\n&#8220;Swim,&#8221; said the mother,<br \/>\n&#8220;We swim,&#8221; said the two,<br \/>\nand they swam all day<br \/>\nwhere the stream runs blue.<\/p>\n<p>Over in the meadow<br \/>\nin a hole in the tree,<br \/>\nLived an old mother owl<br \/>\nand her little owls three.<br \/>\n&#8220;Whoo,&#8221; said the mother,<br \/>\n&#8220;We whoo,&#8221; said the three,<br \/>\nand they whooed all day<br \/>\nin the hole in the tree.<\/p>\n<p>Over in the meadow<br \/>\nby the old barn door,<br \/>\nLived an old mother rat<br \/>\nand her little ratties four.<br \/>\n&#8220;Gnaw,&#8221; said the mother,<br \/>\n&#8220;We gnaw,&#8221; said the four,<br \/>\nand they gnawed all day<br \/>\non by the old barn door.<\/p>\n<p>Over in the meadow<br \/>\nin a snug beehive,<br \/>\nLived an old mother bee<br \/>\nand her little bees five.<br \/>\n&#8220;Buzz,&#8221; said the mother,<br \/>\n&#8220;We buzz,&#8221; said the five,<br \/>\nand they buzzed all day<br \/>\nin the snug beehive.<\/p>\n<p>Over in the meadow<br \/>\nin a nest built of sticks,<br \/>\nLived an old mother crow<br \/>\nand her little crows six.<br \/>\n&#8220;Caw,&#8221; said the mother,<br \/>\n&#8220;We caw,&#8221; said the six,<br \/>\nand they cawed all day<br \/>\nin the nest built of sticks.<\/p>\n<p>Over in the meadow<br \/>\nwhere the grass grows so even,<br \/>\nLived an old mother frog<br \/>\nand her little froggies seven.<br \/>\n&#8220;Jump,&#8221; said the mother,<br \/>\n&#8220;We jump,&#8221; said the seven,<br \/>\nand they jumped all day<br \/>\nwhere the grass grows so even.<\/p>\n<p>Over in the meadow<br \/>\nby the old mossy gate,<br \/>\nLived an old mother lizard<br \/>\nand her little lizards eight.<br \/>\n&#8220;Bask,&#8221; said the mother,<br \/>\n&#8220;We bask,&#8221; said the eight,<br \/>\nand they basked all day<br \/>\nby the old mossy gate.<\/p>\n<p>Over in the meadow<br \/>\nby the old scotch pine,<br \/>\nLived an old mother duck<br \/>\nand her little duckies nine.<br \/>\n&#8220;Quack,&#8221; said the mother,<br \/>\n&#8220;We quack,&#8221; said the nine,<br \/>\nand they quacked all day<br \/>\nby the old scotch pine.<\/p>\n<p>Over in the meadow<br \/>\nin a cozy, wee den,<br \/>\nLived an old mother beaver<br \/>\nand her little beavers ten.<br \/>\n&#8220;Beave,&#8221;
