{"id":4826,"date":"2017-11-08T19:21:05","date_gmt":"2017-11-09T00:21:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w1.loganberrybooks.com\/stumpthebookseller\/?p=4826"},"modified":"2017-11-08T19:21:05","modified_gmt":"2017-11-09T00:21:05","slug":"301v-two-girls-and-a-worm-monster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w1.loganberrybooks.com\/stumpthebookseller\/301v-two-girls-and-a-worm-monster\/","title":{"rendered":"301V: Two girls and a worm monster"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>For years I&#8217;ve thought about a short story I read some time between 1997 and 2007.\u00a0 I&#8217;d estimate 2000 &#8211; 2006.\u00a0 I imagine it was in Harpers, Atlantic, or New Yorker.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve never been able to find it.<\/p>\n<p>In the story there are two girls.\u00a0 I think English, maybe Canadian.\u00a0 They are in the woods and they see some horrible creature.\u00a0 I think a worm, a giant worm.<\/p>\n<p>Then it&#8217;s 60 years later and the narrator sees the girl, now all grown up, at a sight-seeing visit.<\/p>\n<p>The atmosphere really affected me.\u00a0 I was reminded of Alice Munro and then I suppose later of &#8220;My Brilliant Friend&#8221; by Ferrante.<\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t find it because googling &#8216;worm&#8217; or &#8216;monster&#8217; or &#8216;two girls&#8217; gives too many silly hits.<\/p>\n<p>Any sleuths out there?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For years I&#8217;ve thought about a short story I read some time between 1997 and 2007.\u00a0 I&#8217;d estimate 2000 &#8211; 2006.\u00a0 I imagine it was in Harpers, Atlantic, or New Yorker.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve never been able to find it.
