100B: Witch with Purple Birthmark

Hi, I read this book in 1970s, children’s picture book about a young witch who always felt out of place & in the end she was found by good fairies who realised she was their lost princess by purple birthmark (on her hand I think).

I think Sherri is right. I remember Weeny Witch by Ida DeLage as one of my favorite books when I was young. The young witch in the book never feels like she belongs with the other witches. The witches are enemies of the fairies, and the young witch ends up helping the fairies when the witches try to attack them. Then, the fairies notice a mark on her hand that identifies her as being a fairy also. She had been kidnapped from the fairies as a baby. I remember that the book said that the mark was in the shape of a “new moon” because I found it confusing. You can’t see the moon when it’s in the new moon phase, so I never quite knew what the mark was supposed to look like.
