323Y: Cream Puff Craziness

My parents read this book to me in the early- to mid-1970s. It was probably published around then, though earlier is also possible. It was a children’s picture book, fiction, and I remember that it had something to do with cream puffs. Not sure if cream puffs were in the title or not. To be honest, although to me cream puffs were very important to the book, I also wonder if that was just what my child-brain clung to. Thank you!

Hi! Thank you for your suggestion, and sorry that I’m just seeing this now. The Great Custard Pie Panic has definite potential! When I looked it up, the description sounds like it could be the book I’m after, but the character on the cover is a little scary, and I think I’d remember that (but who knows…). Also, again, could be misremembering, but I picture it as a horizontal format (picture book, not a story within an anthology.). Other than the cream puffs, I feel like there was absurdity and chaos. But it wasn’t the Amelia Bedelia book that involves cream puffs. I’d be happy to hear other suggestions if you have them!

I also remember a book featuring cream puffs! I think it was either an octopus or a spider running around town holding cream puffs amid some kind of chaos.
It may have been one story in a book of short stories. I’d love to find out what this book is! Have been trying for years!

The story is called “Scratchy Spider and the Eight Cream Buns” and it’s featured in the children’s anthology “I Can Choose My Bedtime Story”. I still have it!

Thank you for the suggestion! I’ll take a look at this one. I’m pretty sure the one I saw was a picture book, not part of a collection, but elements of what you described sound like they might match. I’ll check it out!

The chaos definitely sounds like the book I’m looking for! I’m pretty sure mine was a stand-alone book (picture book), though, not part of a collection. I hope Scratchy Spider was the one you were after!

Thank you! I am just seeing this now, but it is the closest I have come to figuring out the cream puff book I’ve been looking for. Have you ever come up with any other information about it?
