The book was about some children in WW2 who for some reason had to cross countries – I recall Poland being one – think that they picked up a few more as they traveled on foot mostly – it was told from the girl’s point of view. Can’t remember title or quote from the book, but read it in 60’s

183B: shy cat that lived on a school bus
I am looking for a vintage (late 70’s?) small sized child book. I think the cover was pink. About a shy cat that lived on a school bus. The kids named it “Secret”. After the cat got over its shyness, the children renamed it “Happy” and it was no longer lonely. Any ideas? Many, many thanks!
182C: Boy who could go into animals minds (solved)
looking for a childrens book about a boy who can get into animals minds. Can’t control them , but know what they feel and think. He helps a local vet, figure out what’s wrong with various animals. Ultimately the boy gets killed while in the “mind” of a horse, and realizes he can go to other animals, as book ends with him going into a eagle and soaring away. I thought the name was something like “the boy who talks to animals” or something along those lines, but come up empty when I search. Can anybody out there help me figure this one out?
182A: “No School Tomorrow”? (solved)
This is a children’s book that I believe was written in the 1920’s or 1930’s. It is a chapter book about a little girl and her summer vacation. She would play in her backyard and make little houses out of twigs and leaves for fairies, and cook out in the backyard. Her father calls her by the nickname of “Louella Pouella”. She is having her bedroom redecorated, and her father asks her if she would like to have her bedroom painted “sky blue pink”. I believe the book was titled “No School Tomorrow” or “There is No School Tomorrow”, but I have no idea who the author was. I purchased this book in 1966 at my grade school book fair. Any help would be appreciated.
181E: Child’s Book Featuring the Miami Dolphins Football
I am looking for a book that a friend read when he was younger. Below is the only details I have:
1) Children’s Book purchased through a “scholastic” type of club
2) It’s about football, more specific has information about the Miami Dolphin’s Football Team
3) He was probably reading it between 1970-1975
4) I thought he mentioned something about the title having numbers in it – like One, Two, Three Kick or something like that.
5) He spent his childhood in Canada but the book definitely includes information about the Miami Dolphins’ Football team because he became a fan of the team because of the book.
Hopefully I haven’t stumped you because I would really like to find this book. I realize you don’t have a lot to go on.
181C: Unknown Beastmaster (solved)
Unknown Beastmaster – not the series, but a single book, and this one has a young woman (perhaps a teen) as the main character. She somehow ends up in a gorgeous forest (definitely a fantasy book) where she can communicate with the ‘beasts’ and becomes the ‘master’ although the relationships are more friendly. I read this in the 70’s but have no idea when it was published. The cover had a picture of the young girl surrounded by vines and lush vegetation and of course animals. I always remembered the title as Beastmaster but it comes up in no searches, anywhere. Can anyone help? Thanks!
181B: Rebellious teen goes to world believed fictional
I’m looking for this book I used to read in the 2000s. Small blue hardcover, first in a series. Kind of a graphic novel- illustrated throughout. It was about this girl who went to a world that she thought was fictional to rescue her younger brother, who really liked the series of books based on that world, and then she had to save it. She met the protagonist of the series of books, who turned out to be an African-American woman, and her name was something like Dot.
There was a palace and a witch and a whale and someone made out of soap, and if was all surreal and beautiful. I think if might have been called something like Abeceria or Azera. The protagonist was a rebellious teenager, possibly with a dead mom. If I can’t figure out what it is I’m literally going to have to bunk off and go back to my old elementary school and search their disorganized library, so I’d love some help!
180F: Children sent to live with Aunt (solved)
. I don’t remember much about this book but it was two children from London who were sent to stay with their Aunt in the country (Maybe Ireland??) during the end of their mother’s pregnancy I think. They were pre-teens brother and sister and they thought she was a witch but she was just eccentric. I remember they followed her out one night to see what she was up to and she was just picking mushrooms. I have been looking for this book for years. Read as a child in 1988 and I don’t think it was new then.
179C: I believe it is titled ‘snowbound’ probably 1970s
I believe it is titled ‘snowbound’ probably 1970s, definitely prior to 1977. Boy whose hobby is collecting Wanted posters is spending time on cousin’s ranch/farm with I believe two cousins…all adolescents…they.encounter mysterious stranger…boy recognizes him from Wanted poster…the kids realize they’re in danger but can’t get help because of snow situation….eventually boy contacts dad and dad arrives with Wanted poster. Bad guy caught. I think the cover showed just a snowy landscape. This is NOT the story of Cindy and some guy, also titled Snowbound and also from the 70s. good luck and thank you!
178E: brother and sister, Benji and Betsy? – who were sent to work in a mill after their parents died.
I am searching for an old children’s book that was read to our 6th grade class back in the mid 60’s.
I am not certain of the title of the book, but I thought it had the word “Incredible” in it.
Other details, not certain about them:
I seem to think the author’s name was S.E. Stevenson. I can picture the book on the shelf in the school library, and it was near the end of the fiction section. The cover was red, white and blue, with simple graphics. I think there were birds flying along the ocean shore.
The story was about a brother and sister, Benji and Betsy? – who were sent to work in a mill after their parents died.
The story took place in either England or New England, I remember British terms used.
There was a mean foreman at the mill, who was very harsh with the workers, but was semi-friendly to Betsy
I thought the book won either a Caldicott or Newberry award, but I checked the lists and didn’t seem to see it.
