Hello…I am remembering a book I likely read in 5th or 6th grade about a girl who loved to enter contests. It was sort of an obsession for her…but the contests required skill, like writing a jingle or advertising copy. The one snippet I sort of recall had the words “sweets” “treats” and “table” in it…and possibly a brand name like SWISHERS. Help?!??!
I wouldn’t bring this up since it’s the girl’s mother who enters the contests and not the girl herself, but since you mention SWISHERS I thought I’d mention this just in case. In “Jean and Johnny” by Beverly Cleary, Jean’s mother enters jingle contests, and the family is teasing her about it, and someone comes up with “I like Swish, because when I Swish the clothes, I have more time to doze.”
There’s also “The Luck of Pokey Bloom” by Ellen Conford. Not sure about writing jingles though. It’s been a long time. 🙂
OMG! Solved! Thank you Cathy. It is totally “The Luck of Pokey Bloom.” The second I read your reply I could visualize the cover of my book…crazy! I found a used copy for a small fortune online–bought it–I cannot wait to read it again. So excited! Thank you Loganberry and CATHY!!!!!!
