That sounds like my daughter’s all-time favorite book: D’Aulaire’s Greek Myths.
The cover looks more yellow in the picture here but it is definitely more brownish:)

I agree, I think this is a book. Perhaps the copy you remember had been rebound in a cover that was brown, because this book (though the Amazon copy was reprinted in 1992) is actually much older. I read it as a child in the 1960’s or very early 1970’s and loved it. There is definitely a picture in it of a Greek God (not a Cyclops–I think it was the father or Grandfather of Zeus) who ate all his infant children to try and keep them from growing up and being more powerful than her was. Gorgeous color illustrations-still my favorite book of Greek Mythology.
