I am looking for a children’s book set in India. A girl steps on a snake, she has a sister and a father, her name might be Suki. I read it in the late 1960s.

A few more bits I vaguely recall: her father wore a turban. She and her sister had names that rhyme. (One name might have been Suki,
or I may be conflating it with Kipling.) Their mother had died, I think. The girl stepped on a snake in the grass and it “felt like a rope” under her foot, then bit her.
Thank you all in advance for any ideas!

Hi Suki, no, but thank you! It was about an Indian family.
Dookie, Sookie, and Big Mo.
