Published between 1880 and 1920 I think Pastor’s children fix up a house in their neighborhood secretly. Set during Victorian years. The first pages of book were lost and I can’t remember title. I read it in early 1950s

It occurred to me that this could be Gillian Avery’s ‘Trespassers at Charlecote’- the plot sounds similar, and it is set in the late 19th century, though not written at that time. However, it was published in 1958 – is that too late for you, as you say you read it in the early 50s?
