Three books in a series; time travelers from England arrive on bleak ocean shore, conch shell (speaking?) plays a role; more adult than Narnia; some quest of right and wrong played out; overall somewhat sad and full of loss as story unfolds.

173F: Similar yet not matching “Wonderful Flight to the Mushroom Planet”
I do know the book I am seeking is not the Wonderful Flight to the Mushroom Planet, but it does have a similar premise. I read it in the 50’s. It is illustrated with black and white pencil illustrations. The basic story is some children build a wooden spaceship and in the process one of them finds a flexible silvery disc that is nailed to the nose of the wooden vessel. The children discover that it can actually fly and they also discover the alien the disk belongs to, it is his own ship.
During their adventures they go to a variety of planets, one with giant jelly plants and another with bubbles, one that traps the alien who has to be rescued by the children with the very same fingernails he was so critical of earlier.
171H: Girl slave witch jewel (solved)
Witch (archetypal crone) enslaves girl (orphan?) by embedding jewel(??) in her belly(?) which makes the girl weak & appear hideous.Girl makes friends with other slave creatures. Witch has broom & familiar (cat?). Girl frees self in end. Probably adult fantasy due to sexual content. Prob 80’s novel.
169D: Modern Fantasy Adventures with a character named Broccoli
I remember a children’s (possibly young adult) modern-set fantasy series about two boys who adventure together. The books were embossed, and each one has a major antagonist’s face on the front (which was the embossing), usually a monster. I remember a werewolf and a zombie (each on a different book). The narration was from the 1st person, and he lived next door to a boy who was named something like Brock Lee. He called him Broccoli for most of the series. The main character had a Game Boy that had mystical powers, and could open doors…supposedly even the gates of Hell. He was also revealed to be The Chronicler, which is basically the Narrator of the Universe, unbeknownst to him. Broccoli was the Key, which gave him an ever-expanding suite of powers, largely mystical. In one book the main character sold his soul to a demon, and found a loophole out of it. I believe in the later books they meet an adventuring group of kids who were investigating a vaguely Lovecraftian monster of some sort. I know the series was at least 4-5 books long. Thank you for reading my ramblings; I’ve been looking for this series for over a decade!
168F: 70’s/80’s dark futuristic Sci-fi novel
70’s/80’s dark futuristic Sci-fi novel about a cop chasing a human serial killer between planets. Very violent and gory. The killer has an alien insectoid henchman that looks like a 7ft tall mantis that eats children as payment. Possibly published by Tor or Ballantine.
168D: Teenage boy protaganist with Vampires
Trying to remember the name of a book. Basically it’s a fantasy book with teenage boy protagonist. His aunt has lied to him his whole life, learns who can control all the elements and starts a romance with a female vampire who also passed the test he did. Two sets of vamps.
167C: Purple Monster with inflatable (elephant) trunk. (solved)
I read these books as a kid – it had a purple monster with an inflatable trunk(like an elephant)?
The story was somehow a brother and sister have to go back in time to rescue their father who got sent back to the dinosaur age. When they get to the dinosaur age they find this creature that becomes a friend. It is a 4 legged big bushy purple monster with an elephant trunk. The monster can inflate his trunk to fly and help solve other problems as the 3 go looking for the kids father?
166B: Kingdom underwater trilogy, evil eel
Paperbacks with blue coloured illustrated covers read in the 1970s, probably target audience of 8 years plus. Underwater adventures with speaking sea creatures, including a king and an evil eel. A girl and her younger brother are in the book and one of them is crowned as king or queen.
