123A: Pre 1940’s Children’s Fairy Tales

Looking for an old children’s fairy tales book, pre1940s.  Illustrated in color, not a first reader,  5th or 6th grade level.  The key story I’m looking for is about a girl with small feet & wished for huge feet like everyone else….put her feet in a magic well.Used to read at my grandparents.

Well, I know for a fact that a very similar story appears in volume 3 of the 1920 edition of My Bookhouse – the volume is titled Through Fairy Halls. (That is, the BOY wants big feet like everyone else in his country – the girl, from another country, magically grows big feet and wants them back to her regular size.)

The story is Prince Fairyfoot, aka The Story of Fairyfoot, by the blind Irish poet Frances Browne. (Originally, it was part of Browne’s book Granny’s Wonderful Chair. See Solved Mysteries for ALL of the above titles.)

You can read all of Through Fairy Halls at Google Books (you have to scroll up a bit to see the colored cover). Prince Fairyfoot is on page 12. You can also read all of Granny’s Wonderful Chair at Google Books – the 10-page preface includes her biography.
