A baby is stolen and raised by pirates when they lure a boat to wreak onto shore. Later, when the boy learns his past, he escapes with a horse bought with his family’s stolen money and a small dog that was with him as a baby.

Further plot lines from the book. When the boy escapes he carries the little dog in a basket on the horse and the little dog is killed when the pirates are chasing him. At the end, the boy discovers that one or both of his parents are still alive and it was a care-taker that was killed when he was kidnapped.
Did you ever find that book, its title, or even the author’s name? I read it as a boy. My son read it years ago . We would both like to find it. I think it was called The Runaway but I may be wrong.
