Children’s picture book circa 1980.Most pages had a honeycomb border with bees, containing the illustrations.Story may have been set in the Middle Ages.My niece was born in 1976,so I’m guessing the book was published before she was 8 or 9.I may be remembering the bees commenting like a greek chorus.
Sounds like Kit William’s “Book Without a Name”
That sounds like it could be Kit Williams’ “Book without a Name”. It was a treasure-finding contest in the 70s, and part of the contest was to find the name of the book.
