this is a young adult novel in which two children enter a world based on heraldry. An important unicorn is missing. There are two pages “Vaire” and “Ermine.” It would be published before 1975. Thanks!

I just wanted to say that I’m fairly certain I’ve read this book. I think I got it out of our local library.
My memory of the book I read was that it was pitched a little younger than YA, maybe more middle-grade, And I think, but can’t swear to it, that there’s some stained glass window or plaque or something of heraldic symbols involved that was in a castle in our world the kids were staying in for some reason (like vacation, visiting old relative, etc.) that had something to do with how they got through to the other world..Does that sound like the same book?
If so, I’ll keep digging for it. I haven’t had a lot of luck finding it searching the library catalog, though, but I haven’t had the chance to physically look or ask them over there yet if they know what it is.
That sounds very like the book I recall-it had some small inset illustrations as I recall. Thanks!
Found it!!
The Unicorn Window by Lynette R. Muir.
Description: When Anne and Patrick visit their uncle’s country house on holiday, Anne accidentally breaks a stained glass window depicting a unicorn. That night the siblings are whisked away to the fantastical land of Armoire to help recapture the creature.
Vair and Ermine are characters in it, too, so it was indeed the same book.
Thanks! that is it-now to start searching!!
