Children’s book I read to my kids in the 80’s. I believe it was part of a collection, my daughter believes it may be from Sesame Street. Probably a learning book about numbers. “Dragons” was definitely in the title, probably with a descriptive word in the middle, such as “Nine Daring Dragons”.
This sounds like “The Story of the Nine Dragons” from the Sesame Street series. A group of the Sesame Street characters are playing baseball when nine dragons leap out of the woods, yelling “Arkle-snarkle higgeldy snoo!” and frightening the baseball players. The players first try to get rid of the dragons by tickling them, but when that doesn’t work, they look up the phrase “Arkle-snarkle higgledy snoo!” in a dragon book and discover that it’s dragon-speak for “We want to play baseball, too!” The next day, they bring nine dragon-sized baseball caps and gloves to the field and play baseball with the dragons.
It appears in more than one of their books, including ‘The Sesame Street 123 Story Book,’ ‘The Sesame Street Library Volume 9 (Featuring the Letter S and the Number 9)’ and ‘The Sesame Street Treasury Volume 9 (Starring the Letters M & N & O and the Number 9)’.
Thank you! Thank you! That is exactly it! I was able to find a set online and plan to give it to my daughter at her upcoming baby shower, as she is expecting her first child this summer. This will be a very special gift!
I have the original 1973 book and remember there was a record that played along. Trying to find audio online
I had the Sesame Street 1 2 3 book when I was a child. I love to have it again.
Thank you all, specially a wise search from my son. We looked for this story for many years… even before Amazon and Google no to avail. We had the Little Golden Books version in 197x but who knows where ended up. Any way I will purchase one of these again. Thank you again.
