All I remember about this one was an animal was baking a cake for a party but got eggshells in it and it came out terribly. They called it “eggshell cake.”
Could this be “Hedgehog Bakes a Cake” by Maryann MacDonald? Hedgehog’s various animal friends “help” him bake a cake which is badly made and includes eggshells…but when they’ve left him alone with the baking cake, Hedgehog tactfully cleans up their mess, pitches the inedible cake, and makes a good one by following the recipe. The friends return and all claim credit for the wonderful cake! The only thing is, they don’t know about the switch and don’t refer to “eggshell cake.”
