may be scary book. Inside back cover a map of the town. A Mr. Foxy’s house (gloomy) a dump and store at the top w/ “Gone Fishing” on door. story of animals & clam bake. Halloween poem goes “witches & goblins prowling about on this shivery, hween night. A monster jumps out from a tree w/a shout”
Meant to say may be a (Richard) Scarry book, not under the genre scary. Thanks in advance for all the help!!
I’ve been looking for this one too! What I remember is that it was a collection of individual stories about the characters in the town (all animals). One of those stories was about Mr. Foxy who was grumpy and didn’t want to interact with the others. He had a family of squirrels living in the attic every winter and he would get irritated and pound on the ceiling with a broom or something? In the end though he had a change of heart and even built a door to the attic where the squirrels were living so they would not be cold. I seem to remember all the residents of the town coming together for a party at the end as well. I loved reading this book in the autumn (which makes sense if it has a halloween poem in it!) Was there a Miss Kitty? I seem to remember the dump or the Gone Fishing sign was associated with a bear but I’m not sure. Would love to find it!
The Golden Storybook of River Bend, by Patricia M. Scarry. In previous searches I seem to remember that there could be slight differences in the title, but this is the one that came up first.
