Hardback children’s book written at least before 1983. A little boy must walk around everywhere saying goodnight to everything before bed. The illustrations are in black and white and I think he may have been in a castle. I remember one scene where he is walking on the edge of a fountain.

i am desperately looking for this book. my mom still has almost all of my childhood books except this one and a couple others. i don’t really remember the boy saying goodnight to all the things. i remember it takes place in a castle/palace, is black and white (or mostly), i clearly remember sliding down the bannister and the pile of cannon balls. i feel like some of the pictures may have had some objects in red (an apple perhaps?). i remember very little text but could be wrong about that. hard cover, i want to say dark blue. i was a little kid in the 1980s, i don’t think this book could have been first published any later than the late ’80s, could confidently say definitely pre-1990
