Children’s anthology published at least 50 years ago, definitely containing Thurber’s “Many Moons,” a story about Leiningen and the ants, a story about Pompeii, and many many more. I’d like to see what else is in it; those are the three I remember.

This could be the same one I’m looking for…..mine had, I believe, a Laura Ingalls Wilder story in the back; also a wonderful story about a toy maker who was rushing to finish painting his wooden farm animals when there was a blackout. He kept painting and the next day discovered he painted a blue horse, a purple pig, etc. Does this sound familiar?
Volume 3 of The World Treasury of Children’s Literature includes Many Moons and an excerpt from Little House in the Big Woods. I haven’t found anything yet that also includes Leiningen Versus the Ants.
Thank you!!!
Ugh, I would not have thought of Leningen as a children’s story! But it’s a good clue. I’ll see if I can find it in any likely-sounding collections on Worldcat.
