I’m looking for a children’s book from ca.1945-1952. It’s about a little girl who finds a tiny girl fairy child and then keeps her. It has lovely color illustrations. One illustration shows the little girl giving the fairy a bath, using a soap dish for a bathtub. Can anyone identify this book?
Possibly this book, further description and information can be found in Solved Mysteries.
Poppy, the Adventures of a Fairy
by Anne Perez-Guerra
Poppy, a four-inch tall fairy, loses her way in the World of People, and finds herself living with a family of “giants.” The children help care for Poppy, making her clothes and furniture. Poppy’s curiosity constantly gets into mischief and she frequently needs to be rescued.
Hi Lisa, Thanks for your reply. The time period for Poppy, the Adventures of a Fairy, is correct for the book I’m looking for, but the style of illustrations is very different. The illustrations in the book I’m looking for are mostly full color in pastel colors and in a more painterly style. I’ll keep looking, but I appreciate your thoughts! — Pat
I believe you a talking about Poppy the Four Inch Fairy. This was my favorite story as a child. It was in an anthology of fairy tales that was part of a set of books each with stories of different genres.
Hi P. Robin, Thanks for replying. I don’t think Poppy the Four Inch Fairy is the book I’m thinking of. It was not part of an anthology, and the illustrations weren’t the same. Please see my reply to Lisa Renz above. I appreciate your comment though! — Pat
Could it have been Thumbelina? She is cared for by an old woman…
