I am looking for a childhood book my mother read to me around 1954 when we lived in Virginia. It was about fairies and lavishly illustrated. My favorite was the center fold illustration of fairies in the forest dancing under a moon that had a gauzy ring around it. It was not Golder Books Treasury of Elves and Fairies by Garth Williams. Any ideas?
Thanks.
This pinterest site has many, many pictures similar to what you describe- do any of them look familiar?

Sounds a little like Barbara Cooney’s When the Sky is Like Lace. Although I think she just illustrated it, and the text was by Horowitz? I think.
Given that your book was from the 1950’s, I am thinking it may have been “A Day in Fairy Land” by the Swedish writer and illustrator Ann Mari Sjogren, published in the U.S. under the name Anna Mae Seagren. It has truly lovely illustrations in it, and one is definitely of fairies dancing in the forest on the fairy queen’s birthday. I don’t remember if there was a moon that was gauzy, but their dresses definitely were. I have this book at home and will look. But in the meantime, you can google Ann Mari Sjogren or look on fairypaintings.com to see some pictures from the book.
