Looking for a book by a first time author, Harvard grad. Outstanding effort. I believe it was a political or medical thriller. A car (limo or cab) explodes in an assassination attempt but there’s no debris, just vapor or dust. That’s one scene, not sure it’s the actual plot. Late 1990s.

I am pretty sure you mean Skeptic by Holden Scott, which is actually a novel by Ben Mezrich, who most famously wrote The Accidental Billionaires about the founding of Facebook, which was made into the movie The Social Network. I saw the article in the NY Times Magazine today about this blog and came to read through memories of long lost children’s books. Of course I’m tickled that I might have solved one of the stumpers! Let me know if I’m right …
