I remember a book about a boy in foster care. He was placed with a couple that owned a farm or ranch. I think the boy was the only child in the house. The clearest detail I can remember was the boy and foster father moving irrigation rigs around the ranch to water all the crops. I think the setting was Oregon or Washington state, but I am not sure. I was in elementary school in the mid 1980s, and this book was in our library. Thank you for any help you can provide!
Maybe The Loner, by Weir?
I submitted this one. I looked up The Loner. It has some similarities, but it’s not that one. In the one I remember, the main character definitely has a name. I just don’t know what it is. Also, he was placed at the ranch, because he was either an orphan or in foster care.
There’s The Black Fawn by Jim Kjelgaard. Orphan boy, placed on a farm. It’s old enough, probably 1960s publication.
I checked The Black Fawn, but that’s not it. Thanks for the suggestion.
