I remember a library book about a group of children who discovered they had magic powers. I don’t believe it was any of Edward Eager’s books, and I also don’t think it was Mrs. Coverlet’s Magicians.
The tell-tale sign of magical ability was being able to kiss one’s own elbow. (Spoiler: I can’t.)
Can you help? I would have read it in the early 1970s, but I have no idea when it was published. I’m guessing the 1950s.
Sounds like No Flying in the House by Betty Brock.
That’s a significant point in Betty Brock’s No Flying in the House.
My first thought is No Flying in the House, by Betty Brock
Hi,
The kissing the elbow is a feature of “No flying in the House” by Betty Brock (?). The heroine is a little girl (can’t remember her name) who goes to live somewhere I think and encounters a small dog called Gloria (?) who is a fairy in disguise. There is also a kitten called Belinda who is a bad fairy in disguise. I don’t remember anything about the story other than that the little girl turns out to be a fairy too because she has the ability to kiss her elbow.
Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!
To the person who remembered the elbow kiss and to all the repliers— I have been looking for this book for over a decade but all I could remember was the tiny dog, the collar, and the cat! And how much I loved it as a child in the 1970s
