The book I am looking for I believe was written in the late 70’s early 80’s. It had purple hard cover and I think it was about a witch on a hill? The images were mostly black silhouettes.

Perhaps “The Ghost of Windy Hill” by Clyde Robert Bulla. The illustrations are pen and ink drawings that have a silhouette feel.
There’s a hardback of Eleanor Estes ‘The Witch Family’ that has a purple cover with what could be remembered as a silhouette illustration as it’s mostly black. They live on a glass hill.
I was also going to say The Ghost of Windy Hill!
Sounds like The Witch Family.
The Witch of Hissing Hill by Mary Calhoun.
Did the witch drown? Was there a rose? Did it have illustrations with pink and avocado colors?
Something illustrated by Jan Pienkowski?
