Looking for information on the book in this picture. The only letters that are visible to me are possibly the last letters “KIREE,” but definitely “REE.” Initially I considered “DESIREE,” but it doesn’t look like an S before the I, if indeed that is an I.
It looks to me like “The something of something-ending-in-ckiree”. I think the last word is a place name, and the missing word might be “rose” because of the roses on the cover. It’s just a guess because I can’t actually see the word rose, but it seems reasonable. I think it’s “The Rose of something-ending-in-ckiree.”
If it helps at all, the image this came from is used as a cover image for the song “Movement” by Hozier, who is an Irish musician. There are now a couple of higher resolution images of it out there, and the “i” is actually an “a”. It’s definitely THE (blank) OF (blank)KAREE. I think it may be The Gold of Chickaree by Anna Barlett Warner. I haven’t found an image of that exact cover yet, but the letters fit and it was written and first published in the 1800s
I think I said Anna Barlett. It’s actually Anna Barlettt Warner (and it’s sometimes listed with Susan Warner as a coauthor).
