Hello, I’m looking for a children’s book, or possibly young adult book, about a male ghost. It is a chapter book. I was born in 1973, and I am guessing I read this book between the ages of 8 and 12. The main character was a girl, and a male ghost befriends her. I *think* this happens after she moves to a new area, and I feel like her family becomes concerned about her. This is all that I remember.
It’s a bit late and a YA romance rather than middle-grade, but Jean Thesman’s APPOINTMENT WITH A STRANGER (1988) is a pretty good match otherwise.
I don’t know about it being a chapter book, but Elswyth Thane’s TRYST has this plot.
Could it be “The Haunting of Cassie Palmer” by Vivien Alcock?

(This wiki page is from a television serialisation, but the synopsis is much the same as I remember from the novel.)
Could it be The Ghost Belonged to Me by Richard Peck (or another from the Blossom Culp series)?
Christina’s Ghost, by Betty Ren Wright, features the ghost of a young boy who enlists tween-ish Christina (and her younger sister, if I remember correctly?) to solve the mystery surrounding his death. The girls are living with their uncle, I believe temporarily while their parents are out of town, but those details are fuzzy in my brain.
The other book that comes to mind is Nantucket Summer, by Phyllis Green, in which a teenaged au pair meets the ghost of a male sailor while working for a family on Nantucket.
The Haunting by Margaret Mahy?
