Looking for a children’s book that I think involved a witch. Somebody does a lot of crocheting, the Pennsylvania Dutch are mentioned several times (I presume the story takes place in Pennsylvania), there’s a mystery, and I remember an illustration of a large crow flying. That’s it, I’m afraid.
The Witch of Blackbird Pond
Unfortunately no, but I do believe I read The Witch of Blackbird Pond around the same time. The book I’m thinking of is less serious (though not exactly funny), and I’m pretty sure the main character was a young boy. And it definitely wasn’t Shakers – I know the Pennsylvania Dutch were mentioned specifically because I’d never heard of them before.
No, though I do recall reading The With of Blackberry Pond around the same time. The book I’m think of was less serious (though not a comedy), and pretty sure the main character was a young boy. No Shakers, definitely Pennsylvania Dutch, which I’d never heard of before.
No, though I remember reading The Witch of Blackbird Pond. My book wasn’t so serious (though not exactly a comedy), and I’m pretty sure the lead character was a young boy. Book definitely mentioned the Pennsylvania Dutch specifically, as I’d never heard of them before.
I just came across a book called There’s No Such Thing As A Witch by Ruth Chew, published 1971. The book I’m thinking of isn’t this one, but I remember remember reading There’s No Such Thing As A Witch around the same time as my mystery book, 1984 (plus or minus a year or two).
Does it help that I recall that a few Pennsylvania Dutch terms were mentioned? I don’t remember the terms though, darn.
Possibly The Witchtree Symbol (one of the Nancy Drew books)
I can say it is definitely not the Witchtree Symbol Nancy Drew book, nor the Hardy Boys book with a similar theme (flipped through both of these at the library to be sure).
