I have been searching for this book for 20 or 30 years, to no avail. I was born in 1936, and my mother named me after the main character in a book – Corelei. Unfortunately, I have no other information on this book. If anybody has any ideas on what book this might be, it would be greatly appreciated!
The spelling is different, but could it have been The Tale of Corally Crothers? The time would be right.

Was it a children’s book, do you know? There’s a book called The Tale of Corally Crothers by Romney Gay, about a girl with “no sisters or brothers” who goes looking for a friend. She ends up jumping out of the book to be the reader’s friend. It was published in 1932. While the spelling is a different, the sound is the same, so I thought given the date and similar name it might be a possibility.
I have NO idea what the story was about. All I know my Mom read the book and like it and that is how I got my name – Corelei
Perhaps a bit of a long-shot, but could it be Charlotte Brame’s ‘Coralie’, a romantic novel published at the beginning of the 20th century, told in the first person by the hero Edgar, who falls in love with a girl called Coralie? The book is available online on Gutenberg.
Thank you I will check this one out.
