I am looking for a YA or children’s book from 40's era. Two boys find a sailboat which has sunk next to a dock. They somehow recover the old boat and rebuild it. This is a book my 84 year old dad read and loved as a child.

Could this be one of Arthur Ransome’s many boat related books?
It sounds like Swallowdale by Arthur Ransome, the first (of many) sequels to Swallows and Amazons. Here’s a link to the wiki review

A note, the US edition, from Lippincott, had different cover art than the more common UK Jonathan Cape edition. If you google Swallowdale Ransome Lippincott and look at images, your dad might recognize the cover
Could it be The Boat in the Reeds, by A.C. Stewart?
