I’m looking for a children’s book from the 1950’s about a girl, probably 8 or 9 years old. The memorable thing for me is the picture of her outside playing in a yard or orchard and the trees have benches built around them. It’s all I can remember but somehow important to me to learn the name of the book. It was a favorite of mine as a child.
This is a long shot, but The Golden Name Day by Jennie Lindquist has a very striking cover of a girl about that age standing in an orchard. I searched online and found the cover, and there aren’t any benches, but it might be worth a look. It’s an excellent book if you haven’t read it.
The Golden Name Day by Jennie Lindquist?
Looks like a good book! It’s not the one I’m looking for. Thanks!!
Was the picture an illustration inside, or on the cover?
There are two orchard books I can think of–Miracles on Maple Hill by Sorenson, and Mystery in the Apple Orchard by Orton. Neither of them have benches around an orchard on the cover, but it may be an interior illustration.
I took a look at those. Mystery in the Apple Orchard is the closest to what I remembered but I don’t think it was the one. Thanks!
Martin Pippin in the Apple Orchard? There were many illustrated versions of this book.
