I don't remember the actual book title but here are some details that I remember: 1) I read it around middle school 2) It has a female protagonist 3) The plot involves a girl or young woman who gets lost at sea and winds up on a mysterious island where time doesn't exist and people don't use silverware. 4) Eventually she is found and returned to her family but the island seems to have disappeared, and she can't remember how to use forks anymore. 5) If I remember correctly it was either a middle grade or young adult book, and was most likely published before 2006.
Not sure if that was the main plot of the book, but it sounds like part of Ellen Raskin’s “Figgs & Phantoms.”
I wish! Unfortunately not, the one I read wasn’t in a comic style but thanks for the suggestion!!
I’m unfortunately still looking for this, does anyone remember this book? The only other detail I remember that the main character befriends a girl on the island who is of courting age and there’s some tradition for this. The main character also wants to take part since she’s the same age, but is told she can’t cause she’s not from there.
Hi! I remembered a plot detail in case this helps! While on the Island, the main character befriends another girl. The friend is at the age where she can be courted, and there is some sort of tradition surrounding that. The main character wants to join in but is told that she can’t since she’s not from the island.
Hi! I haven’t remembered any details but I wanted to see if anyone has any more ideas? I hope everyone’s hanging in there this week!
Not sure if this helps but I’m thinking the book might have been published in the 80s? I think the fiction style was close to the author Doris Gates, but none of her books match the plot details that I remember.
