I think that I started reading this book in 1961 or 1962. A boy stumbles across a small alien individual ... male and bald ... and they have adventures. I remember that I liked it and re-read it several times.
I know, it sounds like the plot to ET.
I believe that a woman was the author of the book.
Thanks and good luck.
The Wonderful Flight to the Mushroom Planet?

It could be The Spaceship Under the Apple Tree, by Louis Slobodkin. There were several sequels.
In 1962 there weren’t a lot of women writing science fiction, so you might look at a list of Andre Norton titles to start.
Patricia Wrightson: Down to Earth? Or one of Eleanor Cameron’s books?
Thanks for all of these suggestions but my book is not among those items. Again, the details that I recall….
1. Female author
2. Young boy is the main character
3. Small, bald alien
4. I read the book in the early 1960s
Time for another try at identifying this book……
