I read a book as a teenager in the 80’s. It was about a boy, an orphan, who is adopted by a family in the suburbs with other kids. The boy turns out to have powers and there’s a Nordic god origin story line that comes out. I think it was called Cat’s Eye or Tiger’s Eye or something like that?

The plot sounds like Diana Wynne Jones: Eight Days of Luke, though the title isn’t similar. There is also a book by Monica Furlong called ‘The Cat’s Eye’ – I haven’t read it, but Furlong did write several books of fantasy for young people, so it’s a possibility.
