Bit of a longshot, but could this be from the Jennifer Series by Eunice Young Smith? In most of the series, Jennifer lives on a farm in Illinois, but in Jennifer Dances, she visits her aunt in Chicago. It’s the 5th in a series of 6, the other titles are:
