157K: Trying to find a Children’s Book of a Princess who gets turned into a Red Pterodactyl-Monster

Hello everyone, I am trying to find a children’s book that I used to have as a child in the 90s.  It had gorgeous watercolor pictures and told the story of a Princess who gets turned into a giant red Pterodactyl Monster.  I would be forever grateful to anyone who could tell me the name of this book

Could this be a publication of the story “The Witch of Wandaland” by Geofrey Palmer and Nolen Lloyd? I first read this story in the Arrow Book Club anthology “Nine Witch Tales.” The story is that a king marries a beautiful woman who turns out to be a witch. She puts the king under her spell and begins to oppress the land. When the princess tries to intervene, the witch turns her into a serpent/dragon. The Prince of the Four Winds comes to the rescue and turns the princess back with a kiss. An internet search shows that Palmer/Lloyd published other ghost story type anthologies – Perhaps the illustration you describe was in one of those.

Hi! I wondered if you ever found this book? I also used to check it out of my library obsessively as a kid of the 90’s and now looking for it too. Will get back if I have any epiphanies!

Well, sometimes it just requires putting it out the there to the universe. Pretty sure Dove Isabeau by Jane Yolen is what you’re looking for (it’s what I was looking for).

    If not, good luck!
