Science fiction book where most young people make “coming of age” trips to various planets. A young woman delays making her trip to different worlds but finally does when all of her friends have already left. Book wasn’t risque, but her parents bought her a “sex magnifier” as a graduation gift.
Are you sure it’s a book, not a neovella in a “collected works”. The girl in question is rather spoiled, used to having it her way. There’s some major drama and an accident on a snowy planet. Does this ring a bell? Then I’ll go look in my collection.
This might be Rite of Passage, by Alexei Panshin. The inhabitants of the giant starships that brought humanity to various colony planets do the “Trial” to become adults. The Trial is being dropped on a planet for a month. Don’t remember anything about any sex magnifiers, but it’s been a while since I read the book.
