162C: A cute knight on some kind of quest (Solved)

A children’s picture book in my library around 1986.  A cute knight on some kind of quest.  Detailed illustrations where each character has unique heraldry?  At some point someone says to the knight “Good morning, good knight” to which he replies “that was a very short day”.  Title maybe like Sir X?

(OP here) It’s not Maurice Sendak’s “In the Night Kitchen”, and it doesn’t seem to be a Shel Silverstein book either. Thanks though!

Nope, that’s not it either sorry 🙁

If I recall correctly, it was a large format book with full-page illustrations.

Then again, I was 6 at the time :/

Sounds like Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. There are many, many children’s versions of this story, as well as the adult versions, but Selina Hastings’s was published in 1981 and I think it was a particularly popular choice at the time.

Nope sorry. Although I did read that exact version of that story at about that time! This was more humorous and not (as far as I recall) based on existing mythology.

    Thanks anyway 🙂

I know this book. It was a Spike Milligan children’s book – Sir Nobonk and the Terrible Dreadful Awful Naughty Nasty Dragon
    It’s utter hilarious nonsense! 🙂

Were all the characters mis-proportioned? As in they all had stubby bodies?

Was a deep blue cover and very detailed page borders?

OMG Thank you so much! I’m 90% sure that’s the right thing 🙂 I haven’t found a scan of an interior page yet but I’m pretty sure I remember the name Cedric & the cover.
