190C: Girl starts Babysitting to Buy Christmas Presents (Solves)

I’m looking for a book I enjoyed as a child around 1995, although I believe it was published well before then, probably around the 50s. It is about a girl who starts her own babysitting business because she wants to buy Christmas presents for her family. It details her escapes with the children along the way…she eventually gets her mother a set of orange (or maybe apricot?) scented bath products…bubble bath etc. Can you help with this? I’d so love to have this book for the holidays.

This might be Ginnie and Her Juniors by Catherine Woolley. I’m not sure about the bath products, but the rest fits.

Maybe Catherine Woolley’s book Ginnie’s Babysitting Business? A really long chance is Henry Reed’s Babysitting Service by Robertson. The main character is a boy, but there’s a girl too, his friend and partner Midge.

I wonder if this is “Senior Year” by Anne Emery? It’s about Sally Burnaby, and she and her sister Jean realize they’re short on cash so they call their neighbors to let them know they’re available for babysitting. One of Sally’s babysitting adventures is that she forgets to take the little one to use the bathroom and so the little one has an “accident,” but when the mother comes home she’s so thrilled that Sally is playing with the kids out in the yard that she doesn’t care. Sally is also thrilled when one of her charges learns to tie her shoes, and so she decides maybe she’ll become a teacher. This book is what I would call a “maltshop romance,” lots of innocent 1950s dating and teen angst. I’ve read it many times.

This sounds like Ginnie and Her Juniors (also published as Ginnie’s Baby-Sitting Business) by Catherine Woolley. Fairly easily available in vintage paperback with the revised title, and also back in print under original title from Image Cascade Publishing.
