196F: Stuck in the Snow Children’s book

The book I am searching for is a children’s picture book from the 1960s/1970s. It was about a big snow storm. Lots of people kept getting stuck in the snow storm, and they went to a cozy little house (I believe it was up on a hill) to wait it out. While they were there they ate biscuits and all became friendly together. This is all I remember!

I would love to read this book to my daughter.

This might be ‘The Snow Party’ by Beatrice Schenk De Regniers, illustrated by Reiner Zimnik (1959). The book was reissued in 1989 with new illustrations by Bernice Myers.

“A farmer’s lonely wife wants to throw a party. Although she gets little encouragement from her husband, she continues to daydream about the type of party she would throw. The fierce snowstorm raging outside their farmhouse becomes the catalyst for the somewhat implausible events that follow. The farmer brings his 300 baby chicks into the farmhouse; a carload of people and then more carloads seek shelter at the farmhouse. When the bakery truck driver gets stuck and enters the farmhouse, he suggests that the people unload the cupcakes, rolls, pies, and cake from his truck. Now the wife’s party can begin.”

Thank you, Chanda! It IS called The Snow Party, and I happened to come across it and solve my own mystery just a few days after making my submission here. I’m glad to know someone else knows of this book! I found an old copy and ordered it, and I’m so pleased to have it again. I know my daughter will get a kick out of it. Thank you for your help!
