303F: 1970’s cement stream

I’m looking for a book from 1970-74ish. I think it was in a city; there was a neighbor that the kids started to hang out with. It may have had a nature/environmental feel/message. They worked together to dig a stream bed in the guy’s front yard, which they lined with concrete and then painted rainbow colors. I remember my imagination soaring with this book!

Thank you!

Looking for an illustrated children’s book I loved when I was little. I’m convinced it was maybe a collection of stories in one book because I remember it being thick? The particular story I remember best is one about a stylized Ladybug who lived in a daisy. They had cute faces and big eyes. I believe all of the characters were bugs. I think there was a cricket mailman. Some characters lived in mushrooms? No idea of the plot I think the ladybug was looking for a home made family. I really really want to see the art again as I grew up to be an artist and love looking back on what inspired me as a child.

Sorry to edit again but now I’m second guessing the character was a ladybug. Maybe it was a little girl with a flower hat born in the daisy? My memory is so foggy.
