This is so vague…
I remember reading a series of young adult novels in the early 90s, though I feel the books had been around for awhile. From what I remember the books were about a rural family (I think set somewhere between the 1920s and 1940s… but not sure) I believe each novel in the series was from the perspective of a different sister each time. The only piece of plot I remember was about them fermenting something too long and it became alcohol instead of vinegar.

The only series of YA books that I can think of that sounds anything like this is by Loula Grace Erdman. The books are set in the panhandle of Texas, and there are three books, with each of the three sisters (Melinda, Katie, Caroline) being the main character in one of the books. The Wind Blows Free, The Wide Horizon, and The Good Land. They were published between 1959 and 1964. The only thing about vinegar I can remember is one of the girls burned her hand making a vinegar pie.
Could these be Ruth Elwin Harris’ ‘Quantocks Quartet’, about four sisters brought up in rural England in the early 20th century? Each book is from the point of view of a different sister: Sarah, Frances, Julia and Gwen. The books include ‘The Beckoning Hills’, ‘The Silent Shore’, ‘The Beckoning Hills’ and one other. I don’t remember the fermentation episode, but it’s a long time since I’ve read the books.
