The book I seek is British, probably published in the 1970s. The story is about an abused boy who somehow travels back in time to the Industrial Revolution; his name is “Creep” (given by his abusive mother). In the present day, Creep’s brother searches for him and finds a historical record about him
Young child’s book illustrated. Story set either in the jungle or the African plain. Everyone is warning the main character about the terrible Honky Beast who roars around terribly fast and making frightening sounds. In the end the beast turns out to have been a large powerful automobile.
I have been trying to remember the title of a sweet YA chapter book I read in the early 90’s that was probably written in the 50’s or 60’s. It was about a small family who had a little boy and a little girl and I remember two stories from it distinctly. One was about the sister; there was a soap carving competition at school and the sister had worked hard on her carving. She left it in the basement, and the mother thought it was to be used for washing and used it to do the laundry. The little girl was distraught, and the mother had her look at it to decide if it looked like anything familiar. The little girl ended up carving it into a kitten, and I remember there was an illustration of it in the book. Another story concerned a puppet show that the children did with their friends; I remember it being something like a diorama depicting stairs down to a dungeon or something Hamlet-like.

Story about family of 7 kittens-adored in my childhood in late 50’s-early 60’s. Picture book size as I remember, dark blue (?) paper covers. Kittens wear different dresses/accessories each day of week. Mon do wash, Tues clean house… Kittens are different colors: either white or gray or black, etc.
children’s storybook with pictures, of a girl who had a large green floppy cat pillow she carried around. Either the cat pillow was green or the cat pillow’s eyes were green. The rest of the pictures may have been without color. Cover was hardback and green, like fabric. Written maybe mid-70’s.
1. Hardback children’s book, about the size of a Rolling Stone magazine. Had it in 1970’s, not sure when published. Contained 2-3 short stories I believe, I remember some black and white possibly checkerboard around the edge of cover. It was a picture book oriented children’s book. I remember a man wanting to win the hand of his girl, I think she was a princess, and a mad king he had to win over. I remember the king in one of the stories turns into a monster, and I remember mint chocolate chip ice cream. I am not sure if the king was a mint chocolate chip ice cream monster, or if the town was being flooded by a wave of it.
Circa 1945-60. Main character: Petey/Pete, youngest child of rather large family. Chapter book. Scenes include: Christmas he just wants a little matchbox car, gets many; snow day makes a quilt with siblings; likes milkman’s mule and visits his farm, meets family (including daughter, I think).
Two boys discover their teacher or principal is an alien and there is some plan that they must thwart. Their is a cave involved where the aliens are building or doing something that the boys must stop. I remember an illustration that the “principal looked normal except for a fairly large head or forehead. I remember one of the boys maybe having a sword that figured in the story.
