Hi-this book was my mother’s when she was a child in the 30’s. It had about 5 different “fairy tales” in it. Two that I remember are Rumpelstiltskin and an Irish tale about a crooked boy who I believe caught a leprechaun and asked to be straightened. There was, of course, an Irish maid in it.
I am searching for a book for my Uncle Frank who was born in 1929. It may be called the Witch of Windy Hill and it may be a collection of stories. In one story, there were these lines “Mrs. Mite and Mrs. Midge…underneath the wishing bridge…how I wonder when and whether she will lose her bonnet feather what a broom twood make” and there was mention of Colonel Sand, I think.
“Our Boys”: very old book I had as a child. I estimate it was between 1880 & 1930(sorry!). It was an anthology of children’s stories & included The Little Match Girl & Hansel & Gretel. Other than that, I remember it was blue or green binding, oversized & with b&w lithograph illustrations. Thanks!
This is a picture book on what lies underneath a large metropolitan city, shown in cross-sectional drawings. I found this at a bookstore about four years ago, but it was a reproduction of a book originally published in the 1920’s or 30’s. All the cars on the street level were period automobiles with big scoop headlamps, like Packards and Pierce Arrows. All the illustrations were in color. Even though it is a contemporary publication, no bookseller I’ve talked to has a clue what I’m talking about. (And it’s not David Macaulay.)
Looking for a children’s book, possibly dating from 1930’s, about a brother and sister, one of whom is named Bunney, who help an older couple clean up their store – washing windows, dusting, rearranging the shelves- to get the business going again. Might be one of a series. Hardback.
I would guess from the pictures that I remember that it was very Art Deco, from the 20’s, maybe the 30’s. I used to have it when I was 5 or 6, but it was old then. My Great Grandparents gave it to me, I think. I wore it out. It was my favorite. I think it was a thin book, like a Little Golden Book, don’t know publisher. I would love to know the title, author, and if any copies are available. The pictures are what are imprinted on my mind. If I see it, I will know it.
It is about 7 princesses that are awakened each night and secretly taken to another land, by boat, to meet their princes and (I think) dance all night. I don’t remember much more.
