107D, solved: Childhood Story Book

I am long looking for my childhood Story Book.  My birth year is 1947.  I do not know if mom had this book previous to my birth.  The cover is gone.  So are the first 16 pages.  No index, no contents.  But, on the upside, I have [a few pictures] of the story beginning and some illustrations. I would love to purchase one or more of these books if it could be identified.

107C, solved: Two Bears Who Disobey Their Mother

Info that may help

  • I was born in 1992 so is must be at least 20+ years old.
  • It has an animated version in a collection of stories on VHS (tape) along with others such as Puss in boots, The boy who cried wolf and more.
  • I believe the moral of this story was to teach following rules and consequences.

Name

  • I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the collection of stories or the individual one.. sorry! I could only guess and yours would is as good as mine.

Description

  • There were 2 bears that were very curious about an area that was far away that was forbidden by the mother bear to enter. It appeared to be a magical place and everything inside was perfect. The bears went there one day and contemplated entering – in the end they did. Once they disobeyed the mother and entered, though, they were stuck there forever and could never return home.

107B: Boy Eduardo, Desert, Eggs, Wine

It is a children’s book or folktale, I think, about a boy named Eduardo, who is sent into the desert, perhaps a trip he will not come back from or sent to his death, and he is told he can requests some items to take with him, he requests eggs and wine. He cooks the eggs, drinks the wine.  That is all I know.

Would love to learn the title of this book, and find it so that I can purchase it for my friend who is going through a difficult time and could use some comfort.

107A: Appearances can be deceiving

children’s book I had in early 1970’s.  Was about not judging others by their appearances, that sort of thing.  There was a well dressed man and a bum/hobo both with their hands behind their backs.  When you turned the page, the bum had flowers behind his back and the “nice” guy had a club or a bat!

106E: Polar Bear in Pants, Possibly Named Victor (Solved)

Published in the early to mid-80’s, perhaps. It was my absolute favorite somewhere between 1986 and 1988; I remember this because I have fond memories of reading it while in the refrigerator box fort in the backyard of the house we rented during that time. It was a paperback, thirty pages or so, stylish and clever (to my young senses). I recall only a single illustration: an expressionless polar bear on the second floor of a house or at the top of the landing of stairs; I could have sworn his name was “Victor” but I’ve found nothing similar about a polar bear with that name, other than the Victor Vito books, which this is not. It is also definitely a white bear (so is not Lebraun’s Little Brown Bear series or something by Frank Asch, despite similarly sparse illustrations). He was wearing (polka dotted? striped?) boxers or trousers. I’m nearly certain Alborough’s Bare Bear can’t be it because the plot (despite the reference to underwear) didn’t ring a bell at all, but one never knows. The only other thought I have is that it may be Le-Tan’s Voyage/Visit to the North Pole because his illustrations look familiar, and there’s a dog in the story named Victor, but I can’t find copies of either book at any of our local libraries or a cheap enough edition to risk being incorrect.

106C: Princes, mystery, tapestry, castle, 80s (Solved)

I would have rented this book from a library in the Bethesda/Germantown, MD area in the 1985-1989 timeframe, but I am not sure if it is an 80s book.  The details are jumbled, but I want to say it was a children’s fiction book since I would have rented it at age 10-13.  I remember someone (a child or adult, not sure?) going in search in a castle for some mystery and eventually finding what looked like the remains, bones, or other evidence of two children behind a tapestry.  I think they were 2 brothers, or princes.  It seems reminiscent of the “Princes in the Tower” story from the reign of King Richard III in England, but I can’t be sure the 2 stories are related.  I am not sure if the word “tapestry” is in the title, but I haven’t been able to locate anything like it anywhere.  This has been nagging me for a long time.  Thanks for any help you can provide!

106B: Cottage of Different Animals

The book I am looking for was about a bunch of different animals (a golden lab puppy, a kitten, a hen, a duck and turtle I think, maybe also a squirrel) that all lived together in a cottage in the woods. I think it was a golden book but can’t find it on their lists. I also think it was a picture book. It has several pictures of them all cohabiting and doing house chores. I think there was a picture of the puppy with an apron pulling stuff out of the oven. I also remember pictures of them holding little hobo packs (bags on the end of a stick) possibly moving to the cottage. The artwork was not cartoony it was more like paintings.

106A: Whose Baby Is This?

A children’s book, about a group of woodland animals who stumble across a ‘baby’ in the woods – they’re concerned that it’s been abandoned, and the common refrain is “Whose baby is this?”  It is in fact a child’s doll, and the little girl comes running to fetch her, as the snow falls – gorgeous art.
