This is the 1st in a series (a trilogy) read in school around 1992-1993 (7th grade). The plot is a boy and a girl in the 20th century finding a teen, Art, and discovering that he is actually King Arthur. Art gets hurt toward the end of the book and they have to go Avalon to save him from the bad guy.

109C: Mysteries About Haunted/Spooky Cases
Thanks in advance for any guidance you can offer here. For years I have been trying to remember the name of the chapter books I borrowed from my local library in the mid to late 80’s. I remember loving them tremendously, but now only give you the vaguest details. Which are…
A boy who for some reason I want to call Harry or Peter or William and an older man who I want to call Professor go around solving haunted/spooky cases. My mind wants to call it Harry And the Haunted Knight, but no amount of googling brings that up. The main thing I remember, and I know this is reaching, is that they in every book there would be these glorious descriptions of the two of them slurping down these most delicious sounding gooey desserts. It was one of the authors main identifying characteristics, those wonderful descriptions of the two of them eating the most amazing desserts.
I realize that this is probably a long shot, but I did want to try you and see if it called anything to mind. I would love to read them to my boy when he’s old enough.
Your site is truly wonderful.
109B: Bell Cord Key to Time Travel
The girl keeps time traveling every time she pulls a servant bell cord. She changes places with an ancestor who looks like her, I believe it’s a cousin, who used to live in a mansion. Our girl goes in the past and the ancestor comes in the present. They communicate by leaving each other notes to find, I think in the desk. There is something that is happening in the past which is urgent. I think the ancestor is being beaten, and the modern girl is trying to save her from dying. Anyway, she goes back and forth from the present to the past and from the past to the present. (I think she comes back to the president when she goes to sleep at night, I forget exactly how that worked). Then, on the last time the modern girl needs to time travel, the bell cord breaks, and somehow she still gets back into the present by tweaking the nose of the statue of Caesar that is on the piano in the mansion.
109A: Leonardo DaVinci Time Traveler
I read a book when I was maybe in sixth grade where the group of friends live in the future or something and there are these flying metal spheres chasing them on the cover, I think. The school bully goes back in time with them or something and he ends up getting stuck there and when they return they deduce that he went on to become Leonardo DaVinci because of his knowledge of the future. I cannot think of this book.
108E: Young Adult Mystery Takes Place in Scotland
I believe I read this book in the late 1980’s or early 1990’s. I also believe it was part of a series with the two main characters. This may have been the first or second book in the series. I do not think subsequent books took place in Scotland. The two main characters were a guy and girl (possibly a couple, I do not think they were related) in their late teens or early 20’s. There may have been a romantic aspect of them getting together. I remember the guy being self-assured and flirty and the girl being more sensible. In the particular book I’m remembering, they travel to Scotland and stay in a castle near a loch to solve a mystery.
108D: teenage girl finds solace in bird-watching
I read this paperback in the 60s, probably published in the 50s or earlier, set in the UK. The dark-haired heroine, Petrova (?), was a second child. She loved seeing wild birds, wonderful descriptions eg a flock coming in over an estuary.
108C: Family Who Lives in a Tall, Skinny House
I have a very vague memory of a book I loved when I was very young. It was a picture book about a family that lived in a tall, skinny house. The illustrations were VERY late-60s, early-70s style. Kind of “mod”, I guess. In my memory, the book is either purple or orange but I’m not sure. Thank you!
108B: Pigtails with Ribbons
This book I remember reading in grade school. The main character was a young girl who liked to have her hair in pigtails and she kept her ribbons for them all organized in the closet. She had red hair and freckles. Maybe her name was Mandy?. I think she was dyslexic she described letters moving around. She had a baseball alarm clock that she could throw to turn it off. I know she was worried about her schoolwork a lot cause the letters moving stuff. It made her act out towards family and friends I think. I read this book probably in the late 80’s to early 90’s. It was most like a book fair book, you know the ones that came every year and we could buy books. I just remember reading it a lot and would very much like to read it again if I can find it.
107B: Boy Eduardo, Desert, Eggs, Wine
It is a children’s book or folktale, I think, about a boy named Eduardo, who is sent into the desert, perhaps a trip he will not come back from or sent to his death, and he is told he can requests some items to take with him, he requests eggs and wine. He cooks the eggs, drinks the wine. That is all I know.
Would love to learn the title of this book, and find it so that I can purchase it for my friend who is going through a difficult time and could use some comfort.
107A: Appearances can be deceiving
children’s book I had in early 1970’s. Was about not judging others by their appearances, that sort of thing. There was a well dressed man and a bum/hobo both with their hands behind their backs. When you turned the page, the bum had flowers behind his back and the “nice” guy had a club or a bat!
