I am hoping you can help me find a book I read probably between ’78-82. I am not sure how reliable my memory is, but what I remember is this: it was a paperback with stories about a kingdom, or maybe a medieval fiefdom. At least one of the stories, or maybe all of them centered on the kitchen having to make a certain dish. There was a big penalty (death? that seems like a lot for what I think I read as an 8 year old) if they didn’t get the recipe right. I think the story was told through a boy getting introduced to the kitchen There was definitely a recipe for a pound cake, possibly a bundt cake. I know that because I made it many many times as a kid. I hope you can help me find it!

351G: Seizure Takes Girl Back in Time to Relive Ancestor’s Life
I’m trying to find a book that I read in the late 70’s. It was a paperback book, probably a teen novel about a girl whose name was Katherine (I think). She goes into an antique store or an attic and sees a picture of herself which turns out to be a picture of her great great great Grandmother. She has a dream and goes back in time and lives her grandmother’s life in great detail, for years. It seems to be a life in the Middle Ages.
She suddenly wakes up from her dream and is told that she has only been asleep for about 15 minutes and that in fact, she had a seizure. During this very short seizure, she lives her ancestor's life.
I believe the cover of the book had a portrait of the girl from the Middle Ages in it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I loved this book and would be so happy to find it.
346Y: Medieval Girl Watches Battle Out of Castle Window
The book was older and faded back in the early 90s, the art reminded me of the style of Stephen Kings Dark tower. It was found at a school library in the older kids/adult section and was defending fiction. The cover had a young girl with a solemn look in a red medieval dress sitting at a castle window. I remember something about a war or battle and it may have even been what she was watching out the window. I also remember a tilted drafting type table or needlework stand beside the girl. I was 9 when I started to read it and was told it was “too old” for me so it was taken before I could read more than the first couple of chapters.
329T: Medieval Adventures In The Forest – A Jester, A Shared Dream
This is a book that I started reading in 5th grade, but never finished. It must have been published in 1972 or earlier. It was wildly popular in my school library.
It was set in the Middle Ages, I think. One of the main characters was a court jester. The setting was very pastoral. Many scenes take place in a forest. There was also a situation in which several people were dreaming the same dream.
This has been haunting me for a long time. Would love to find and finish this book. Thank you!
328U: 60s-70s time-travel medieval fantasy, siblings, beautiful illustrations
This is a beautifully illustrated, middle-reader American (I think) fantasy book about a brother/sister or possibly male/female friends who somehow stumbled from their somewhat urban home/apartment building into a medieval setting when coming home from school one day in the woods near their home.
I was born in 1970 and was a very early and voracious reader, so this book cannot have been published much later than 1976; my guess (contextually) is that it’s most-likely a little earlier than that.
Many thanks!!
320K: Medieval Girl Returns To Family, Wants To Belong
I’m searching for a book that I read in the summer of 1993 or 1994. I believe it was set in medieval times (the family lives in a castle). The book was very new at the time—I think I was the first to check it out (I miss stamping due dates)!
It begins with a fair haired and fair skinned girl returning to her biological family (refined family with fair hair) after returning from being raised by a rival family (a rougher family with dark hair). She had been traded and her family had raised their son, who had died. So, she was returned.
She’s spent her life feeling like she doesn’t belong and is now finding her place and adjusting to life back with her family. She still feels like she doesn’t belong.
She has siblings—a beautiful sister & brother who are fraternal twins—and 1-2 more children. There is a smallpox outbreak and her sister’s face is scarred.
