Meticulously illustrated, magazine sized kids book, possibly for ages 8 and up. Group of people travel the world by hot air balloon, train and dog-sled on an urgent adventure. Danger! Pistols!

It could be the “Puzzle Balloon Race” by Rosie Heywood and Brenda Haw.
One of the Usborne Puzzle Adventures?
An adaptation of *Around the World in Eighty Days*, perhaps?
Thanks, Kirsten! You were bang on. It’s an adaptation with less cartoony illustrations than most, so I originally excluded that title from my search.
Solved! That is what came up in Internet searches originally, but I did not think it could be Around the World in Eighty Days. After seeing your post, Kirsten, I looked again and found the 1980 Viking Press edition 9780670133239. The illustrations in this retelling are lovely. Thank you!
Hooray!
I have strong memories of a stop-motion animation from those times as well as the “Willy Fogg” cartoon where they were all animals. I’m not sure why it had such a big moment in the 80s, but evidently it did!
